Towns have the ability to opt in or out and stay in April. If they move to November then, as long as their budget is at or under the cap the budget doesn't go on the ballot. Drawbacks? The taxpayers may not want it to be at cap or however much the tax is raised. If they opt to stay in April then the budget is on the ballot and voter's have the say. Drawback? The more towns that opt out and go to November the bigger the cost of the April election will be to the towns that stay in April. All expenses for the election that were split between the towns under the county election divisions will now be split by however many stay in April. Example: Monmouth County has 53 municipalities. So they split the towns election expense 53 ways. Now if half these towns go to November then the remaining 26 or so will have to split the cost, thereby making the option to stay in April more expensive for the taxpayers. It will be interesting to see how many towns opt out. Another plus would be the November election always has a bigger turnout so more people will vote for the School Board Issues. What's up in your town.

Get Up and Do Something

The biggest problem with politics today is not the politicians. They are merely entertainment while they try to insult each other as they pump themselves up. Its been going on for two hundred years and it's going to keep going. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. The biggest problem is the uninformed voter. When it's time to vote do your homework. Find out what the candidate really stands for and make an informed decision before you cast that vote. It doesn't matter who they're married to, what school they went to or if they are from your home state. None of those reasons are good enough to get your vote. What are they going to do about taxes?Cut them? Ask how. What about health care? Do we lose what we have? Add to it?How will it be paid for?Can we do something about these humoungus student loans in an economy with no jobs?We bailed out the banks now how about bailing out these hard working kids who stepped into the worst job market since the Great Depression?Whatever you care about should be addressed by the candidate. If they can't give you an answer, they don't deserve your vote. End of conversation. Vote with your head.

Ebooks Rock!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 181px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3ypdKrASrI8/Tamm4T5np4I/AAAAAAAAAwg/ZuHiZDiQHZA/s200/BBathtime.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596187498329384834" />

Brookdale College, Are you proud?

Yesterday's Asbury Park Press had an article stating exactly what the President of Brookdale College in Lincroft NJ made each year. The peasants are outraged!
Base Salary = $216,000.
Country Club Membership = $ ? (Plus yearly updates)
Tuition Reimbursement to private college for his two kids = $267,676. (so far. What? Couldn't they go to Brookdale?)
Travel expenses for his wife = $ ? No numbers on how much this cost.
Ford Expedition = $42,815.
Housing Allowance = $ 1,500. per month
Yearly bonuses = $10,000 to 15,000 per year.

All total this guy probably makes at least $300,000. a year.
So I think I should ask my boss for a housing allowance. All this time I thought I was supposed to pay for that out of my base salary but hey! maybe I was wrong? What else would my base salary be for anyway?
And a Ford Expedition? What? He couldn't drive a Hyundai and save a few bucks for tuition?
Travel expenses for his wife? Really? Just leave her home! Why are students paying for her free ride?
And then there's the country club. Really? This was a necessary part of his contract? Yeah, lets get this clown a country club membership so...for....wait, I'm thinking...there has to be some reason somewhere that the Brookdale Board of Trustee's thought this was a necessity in the contract. Either that or they had a big brain fart and just put it in there for shits and giggles.
Shheesh!
This all came to light when the Pres of Brookdale made a comment about the Freeholders cutting aide to the college. Freeholder John Curley decided to investigate for himself and discovered that Brookdale's Pres was cleaning up at the taxpayer's expense.
Congrats John Curley! Good job.
Now we need the Brookdale Board of Trustees to do their job. Renegotiate this contract and take out all the fluff. If the pres gets another job just wave goodbye and find someone else from the job pool of over a million qualified applicants. I'd bet they have someone there at Brookdale that would do the job for just the salary without all the perks.
The Brookdale Board of Trustees should be ashamed of themselves for this misuse of funds. They've abused the trust that students and parents have placed in them to do the right thing.
This morning the Trustees voted not to push through the 8.2% tuition increase. Too bad they had to be EMBARRASSED into making the right choice.
<img width='1' height='1' First of all we have to admit they are a drain on our society because they use our resources and do not pay taxes. Taxes are what support our roads, parks, schools, and all that other stuff we take for granted.
Now if every illegal who has been living in the USA for the past five years be granted citizenship and a social security number they would then become taxpayers. Think how much money that would bring into our budgets?
Regarding our weak social security issue...only let them collect the amount they've paid into it. That way they won't drain that system either.
Since we all came from immigrants I think we need to give these people a chance. And if it helps balance the budget...kool!

Vincent Solomeno for Freeholder

Vincent Solomeno packed the house Saturday morning to kick off his campaign for the nomination for Freeholder. Democratic Chairmen from across the Bayshore area came out to show their support and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Congressman Palone dropped by to give his support to Vincent and meet with the crowd.
At age 14 Vincent walked into a township meeting and demanded the committee do something about the potholes that were taking over his town. He also voiced concern over the inflated taxes. The township committee men didn’t take him seriously and laughed.
But Vincent didn’t give up. He showed his determination to get things done. He contacted the right people and formed a committee for change in that town.
The men on the committee who laughed at him then aren’t laughing any more. Vincent went on to become a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve, a recipient of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship and the J.William Fulbright Fellowship, he has a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Scranton and earned his M.A. in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam. He’s worked as a Truman Summer Fellow in Washington D.C for Congressman Palone where he specialized in Health care and food safety issues.
Whew! Who’s laughing now boys?
Vincent Solomeno is a force to be reckoned with and he’s ready to bring that energy to Freehold.
And this is just what Freehold needs, a man who knows how to get things done and doesn’t back down. We need a man like Vincent Solomeno to shake out the cobwebs and bring fresh ideas to Monmouth County. After all the state has it's own website already and he could definitely put an update page there if he really felt the overwhelming need to reach out. I guess if Christie had his way we'd amend that statement to be "land of the free except if you're gay".

Mr. Christie? If you're out there can you tell me what you base this decision on? Do you have some kind of religious opinion on gays or do you just hate them? Why is it they don't deserve the same freedoms as you, your wife and children?

Or is this just a ploy trying to drag the good old boys under your wing? Kind of like the the Palin syndrome when McCain snatched up just any old woman to try and sway the female base of the population over to this side. Too bad he didn't vet her before letting her open her mouth.

If we think back to the reason America broke away from England all those many eon's ago we can remember it was for religious freedom. Our founding father's risked everything to break away from oppressive overlords who thought they could micromanage the lives of the people. Now we have a man running for Governor who wants to impose his own views into the marriages of people living in New Jersey. What business is it of his who any of us marry? Shouldn't that be our right? Our freedom?
Chris Christie? Stay out of our marriage, our homes and our bedrooms. You don't belong here.

Boycotting Eagle Sponsors

Anyone who owns a dog should be disgusted by the Eagles signing a dog killer.
This man participated in the murders of at least 8 dogs. He took part in electrocuting, hanging, drowning, and slamming dogs into the ground to murder them. Now, if he had any morals at all wouldn't he at least have tried a more humane way to put the dog down? But hanging?
Picture it; He makes a noose with a piece of rope. slings the end of a branch of a tree behind his mansion then loops the other end around a dogs neck. Do you think the dog looked up at him with big brown eyes full of love and devotion? Do you think he cowered in fear because he just watched other dogs being drowned? So, Vick gets this rope snugly around the dogs neck and then what? Did Mr. Vick yank on the other end and laugh as the dog fought against the rope tightening around his throat? Did the dog writhe in pain as the noose cut off his air supply? Was Mr. Vick laughing as the dog twitched, paws helplessly waving in the air as it died?
Or was he simply planning how to kill the next dog in line? Which would be better? Drowning? Oh, how about an electrocution?
And now after serving 18 months he walks right back into your children's lives as a football hero. Did he really pay his debt to society as some claim? I don't think so. How about a year in jail for each dog he murdered? And how about he serve his entire sentence instead of getting out early?
Let your feelings be known.
Just say no.
The Eagles see only $$$ where Vick is concerned. So hit them where the dollar signs hurt. Boycott their sponsors.
On the Eagles Website you see ads for Rite Aide, Sovereign Bank and others. Send these folks an email and tell them if they support dog killers you don't support them.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Obama's 100 days.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 103px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_9R244QWj8JM/SfhFQY8K2LI/AAAAAAAAAdg/WRWDmHryViA/s200/Obama.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330086306868025522" /> One hundred days. Always some kind of mile stone for a new Prez. So now we get to judge him. Let's see...he's been working on the economy (something ignored for the last few years so OMG what a mess!), working on an intelligent plan to get us out of Iraq (And he's listening to his generals. I believe in the last admin when a general made suggestions that weren't popular they were reassigned), more stimulus checks coming out. I'm not getting one but it looks like its going to people who really need it so that's a good thing.
Getting rid of Gitmo. Since it's turned into a huge embarrassment to our country that's a good thing. And no they aren't going to release the bad guys into our country (have you seen those ridicules emails floating around?). Those who belong in jail will just go to other jails. Simple.
Let's face it, Obama took control of a country in trouble and he's moving forward. What more can we ask? Cleaning up 8 years of mismanagement takes time.
I think he's doing okay. Reading back on them I get the extreme urge to edit. Must be the writer in me.
I met this man running for governor of our state so I wandered on over to his website and (oh boy!) did the urge to edit come on strong. Like I wanted to send this guy an email and point out these things...comma placement, run on sentences, WRITING THE WHOLE THING IN CAPS, and other random mistakes. Yes, we all miss a comma here and there, but five paragraphs without a comma? Makes ya go; hmmmm. Correct him? I wanted to, but I didn't do it. After all, who am I to tell him anything. And do I really want a dialog with this man?
Scary that he's running for governor and doesn't know basic grammar. Some of the stuff on his website was scary too. Like the fact that our NSA (National Security Agency) planned 9/11 as a way to control the people. And the fact that there was no bio. He's asking our state to put him in our highest office and doesn't think its important we know his background, education or history. He lost my vote right there. (Okay, the 9/11 conspiracy did it, too)

Back to the last eight years of Bushisums...
"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." — September 2000, explaining his energy policies at an event in Michigan.

• "Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?" — January 2000, during a campaign event in South Carolina.

• "They misunderestimated the compassion of our country. I think they misunderestimated the will and determination of the commander in chief, too." — Sept. 26, 2001, in Langley, Va. Bush was referring to the terrorists who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks.

• "There's no doubt in my mind, not one doubt in my mind, that we will fail." — Oct. 4, 2001, in Washington. Bush was remarking on a back-to-work plan after the terrorist attacks.

• "It would be a mistake for the United States Senate to allow any kind of human cloning to come out of that chamber." — April 10, 2002, at the White House, as Bush urged Senate passage of a broad ban on cloning.

• "I want to thank the dozens of welfare-to-work stories, the actual examples of people who made the firm and solemn commitment to work hard to embetter themselves." — April 18, 2002, at the White House.

• "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." — Sept. 17, 2002, in Nashville, Tenn.

• "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." — Aug. 5, 2004, at the signing ceremony for a defense spending bill.

• "Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." — Sept. 6, 2004, at a rally in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

• "Our most abundant energy source is coal. We have enough coal to last for 250 years, yet coal also prevents an environmental challenge." — April 20, 2005, in Washington.

• "We look forward to hearing your vision, so we can more better do our job." — Sept. 20, 2005, in Gulfport, Miss.

• "I can't wait to join you in the joy of welcoming neighbors back into neighborhoods, and small businesses up and running, and cutting those ribbons that somebody is creating new jobs." — Sept. 5, 2005, when Bush met with residents of Poplarville, Miss., in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

• "It was not always a given that the United States and America would have a close relationship. After all, 60 years we were at war 60 years ago we were at war." — June 29, 2006, at the White House, where Bush met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

• "Make no mistake about it, I understand how tough it is, sir. Awesome speech." April 16, 2008, at a ceremony welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the White House.

• "The fact that they purchased the machine meant somebody had to make the machine. And when somebody makes a machine, it means there's jobs at the machine-making place." — May 27, 2008, in Mesa, Ariz.

• "And they have no disregard for human life." — July 15, 2008, at the White House. Bush was referring to enemy fighters in Afghanistan.

• "I remember meeting a mother of a child who was abducted by the North Koreans right here in the Oval Office." — June 26, 2008, during a Rose Garden news briefing.

• "Throughout our history, the words of the Declaration have inspired immigrants from around the world to set sail to our shores. These immigrants have helped transform 13 small colonies into a great and growing nation of more than 300 people." — July 4, 2008 in Virginia.
Want more? Really?

In case you missed it, read here. Gov. Rod Blagojevich thought he could make some personal profit from selling the seat vacated by Prez-elect Obama.

I would think the best he should have hoped for was an assignment to Obama's cabinet yet this guy figures he can take the highest bidder for personal profit. (Did he forget about ebay? Things go for really big bucks there.)

No, instead he plays let's make a deal. Gotta job for my wife? Good salary for me? I'll start up a non-profit and you can pay me big bucks and POOF! You're a senator!

I understand politics, I know how the appointment game gets played but there are somethings ya probably shouldn't try. Selling Senate seats is probably one of them.

Rumor: Jesse Jackson was involved. Eh, I doubt that. Jesse denies it and I believe him. I'm not a fan but he's too smart for this stuff.

Okay, now I have to say one more thing: What's up with that hair?

Obama

From the beginning Obama reminded me of JFK. His quiet strength, intelligence and forward thinking radiates hope. Something our country needs right now. With sinking economy, soring jobless rates and general feeling of malcontent we need a man with new ideas. And Obama is it. I feel good about this election. For whatever reason Americans (Democrats AND Republicans) voted for Obama the message is clear; America needs change. We need a president who worked his way through school, (Harvard!) spent time with the little guy, and understands what the real America really needs.

Regan started trickle down economics and it worked--for awhile. Obama's plane seems more like trickle up economics. Give money to the little guy, he in turns spends money, enriches our economy and putting more into the hands of the wealthy.

This makes more sense. If the little guy has nothing to spend big business won't be so big anymore. He needs the little guy to spend so he can reap the profits.

Obama is inheriting a big mess and anyone who expects miracles and a quick turn around--well, it ain't gonna happen. His first priority is to clean up the mess left behind by our present prez.

But after that --> Watch out! Obama has the brains and ideas to turn this country around.

America, you made a wise choice.
<div Oh yes, 17 year old's are children (they can't even vote yet!)
So here's a thought. The reason Palin outed her daughter is because some random blogger suggested that maybe baby Trig actually belonged to her daughter and not her. After all, her daughter missed like 5 months of school and when Sarah's water broke (leaked?) she waited two hours in Texas so she could give a speech, then traveled over 10 hours back to Alaska and then drove another hour to a hospital to deliver the baby. I know it was her fifth child but please! Isn't the health and safe delivery of a child a priority over giving a damn speech? Especially since it was a child with developmental issues? I guess Sarah didn't think so. Politics first, ya know.
So here's my theory (don't hate me~its just a thought)
What if her daughter really isn't pregnant? What if this is all a made up lie to show us Palin really is an outstanding member of the moral majority? Could Trig really belong to the daughter and this was just a pathetic attempt to cover it?
So if her daughter really does deliver a baby in December as scheduled...I'll apologize.
If not? We'll know Palin lied to us.
Still very un-cool to out your daughter on national TV.

McCain he is a changin' ...and changin'...and....

Did McCain run out of material or is he just into stealing the ideals of others when his own fail?
His whole campaign has been crapping on Obama about wanting change. When Browne sued (here) did McCain just look around for another theme song to steal?
Ask the Wilson sisters who's work was used even after they requested the McCain campaign to leave their music out of his campaign.
So if downloading music is illegal...what does this say for McCain and crew?

McCain missed Willy!

John! The Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.
A woman who is younger then Obama (Hasn't McCain been harping on Obama's youth and lack of experience?) and her only other political work has been as mayor of Wasila, a small town of about 6000 people. (She's in her first term as Governor-not a lot of experience there either.)
Although we're just learning about her, she does support drilling in the Alaska Wildlife Refuge, but this would make sense as her husband is an oil production operator. (Is this what we call conflict of interest? Why wouldn't she support something that would keep her dear hubby employed?)

Did she really try to get her sister's exhusband fired?

She's also a hunter. Maybe she can give Dick Chaney some lessons?

One scary thought; If something happened to McCain while in office a mayor of a small town in the Alaskan wilderness will become president of the United States. ((shiver))

McCain! What were you thinking? Was this announcement a red herring? Is there something else up your sleeve? Did you let Sarah's name slip so we wouldn't be so shocked at your real choice? Did you think the fact that she's a woman would sway the Hillary vote? Do you think Hillary supporters are that stupid? At least Hillary spent some time in the White House and on her own has a lot more experience.

Read more about Sarah here.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sidewalkpolitics.blogspot.com/2008/08/mccain-are-you-serious.html' title='McCain? Let's face it. After eight years of Bush's republican politics we need someone to change things. We're in an unnecessary war, highest foreclosure and unemployment rates ever and between gas and tolls we can't even afford to get to work even if we could find a job.

Its time for a change and I don't think McCain is it. Here's a man who is so rich he doesn't even know how many houses he owns. (The number is between 7 and 9.) Think of it this way. You have a house that includes: Mortgage, Taxes, Insurance, Utilities. You keep it nicely furnished which costs money, buy food to feed your family and any entertainment you can factor into your budget. Do you really think McCain has any idea how much it costs to live in America? He doesn't even know how many houses he has! How could he possibly know how much they cost to run?

By the way, Obama has one house. He's the one I'm voting for. We have four amazing seasons, a beautiful shoreline, mountains, lakes and half a claim to the Delaware river. We have Cape May (beautiful), Atlantic City (bring your wallet!) and shopping (Oh the Shopping!!!)

And we're a blue state! Can it get any better?

There are no mudslides, tornados (ok, few and far between), barely any hurricanes and if you can deal with the occasional Nor'easter...its bliss.

Then there's the politics. That's where the beauty stalls. From trying to over tax our toll roads to upping the sales tax I sometimes get the feeling that we're being driven out.

So, what's your opinion? Tell me about your New Jersey.
